As we’ve known for some time, Porsche has been working on a plug-in hybrid drivetrain for its Porsche Panamera model (which will be called the Panamera S e-Hybrid). Now, Motor Trend is reporting that Porsche is also working on a plug-in hybrid version of the Cayenne SUV.
The Cayenne e-Hybrid will likely debut in 2014.
The powertrain in the Cayenne plug-in hybrid will be the same as the one in the Panamera e-hybrid – an electric motor that delivers 100 horsepower, combined with 420 horsepower from the gasoline V6 engine. Range in pure electric mode will be more than 15 miles.
Currently, the Porsche Panamera and Cayenne sell around 1500 combined units per month in the US.
