 Post subject: no recuperation

I recently purchased a 2014 SE Hybrid.
When I hit the brake, I never see the power instrument indicate a charge, the needle will not go below 'ready'.
I get no error messages and when I select 'e-charge', I can see the battery is being charged, so the generator is working.
What should I check?
