When plugged in and charging, the radiator/engine cooling fan goes on for hours, even if the engine is cold. Didn't happen in the winter when it was colder but now in the warmer weather it happens all the time. Is this required to cool something while charging? Does it matter if I was entirely running on battery or with some gas?

I've visited a couple of plug in hybrid sites and some say it is normal and others say it is a problem. Anyone have similar experience and/or advice?

Thanks!

Its cooling the battery while charging. Not the engine.

Agree it is the battery being cooled when charging, normal operation. On hot days when I know the charging will chuck a load of heat into the garage I leave the garage gates open and pop the bonnet as well. As i charge at 7Kw I know it will be fully done in 90 mins, so close things done then. More to prevent the garage heating up versus anything else
