In a recent article on TopGear.com, Porsche's hybrid powertrain manager Manfred Schurmann is quoted as saying:

"The packaging is impossible for the Macan [...] This system is too big."
That was his response to the question of whether or not the Cayenne S eHybrid's system (which is a transplant of the Panamera e-Hybrid's system) would fit into the Macan.

Quote:
But surely a downsized, next-generation system would fit the Macan brand at least as well as the Cayenne's? "For sure, a hybrid system will fit, but a decision has not yet been made about a hybrid version of the Macan. It's an open question. No development is taking place at the moment."

Basically the same news for the 911 Hybrid...

Now I see that Porsche says the Macan Plug-in Hybrid is under development and will launch within 2 years?!

Quote:
Porsche also has to live up to offering high-end technology, such as the hybrid tech seen on the 918 Spyder, on its products like the Cayenne and Panamera. The brand introduced a plug-in hybrid variant on the these models in a bid to drive up its image as a premium car maker with focus on sustainable and modern technology.

Going forth, Porsche will launch the Macan with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, Porsche President & CEO Matthias Müller, confirmed to Indian Autos Blog at the Geneva Motor Show last month. When asked about the Macan Plug-in hybrid, Mr. Müller said –

"We’re working on it. We’ll have it in 1 or 2 years."

I am very curious to see what Porsche does with the Macan - will they use the same plug-in hybrid drivetrain in the Panamera and Cayenne S e-Hybrid models? They could likely make it fit by either a) coupling the electric components to the existing Macan motor options or b) using a smaller battery pack, or c) allowing the pack to raise the rear cargo floor slightly.
